2 Samuel 11:2
This little verse describes a very common situation: When we go to public places, our eyes
are always focused on the people around us. Men
instinctively stare at women and women look at men.
That's natural, there's nothing wrong with that. However, the attentive Christian receives
a brief push from the Holy Spirit at this time, saying:
Look in the other direction!
But why did not David, who was a man, "according to the heart of God," receive this warning?
Let's read the same verse again, but also the previous verse:
2 Samuel 11: 1-2
Brothers, today's topic is "Do what needs to be done".
There is no reason in the passage we read in verse 1. It describes the moment of David.
It was time for battles, there was no time to stay home
after lunch and take a nap! David stopped doing his duty, was tempted and sinned severely.
If we do not do what we have to do, we offer the enemy the opportunity to offer temptations.
We have all obligations to fulfill obligations. Adults need to work from home (cleaning,
clothing, food) or in offices, factories. Children have to go to school in the morning
and do their homework in the afternoons. Thankfully, we have health and the willingness
to do whatever He gives us. A child of God will never be "unoccupied," because God knows
that the enemy will attack if our mind can wander without purpose.
Brothers, it is not wrong to rest on Sunday afternoon. In the Bible, God sometimes
holds festivals for his people. What we are discussing today is the danger of resting
before the ministry. Celebrate without reason with the heart of God.
Let's look at Paul's advice to the Ephesians:
Ephesians 5: 15-17
King David did not go to war and bathsheba unintentionally bathed: he paid no attention to
his actions, because he should not have looked further.
He did not go looking for a woman, he just saw what he was presented with: "The days we
live are bad."
He sent to Bathsheba, he did not know where he wanted to go, he acted without judgment.
It is necessary to supervise brothers. The world offers us many things. Every day I try to
see the news on the internet. There is a lot going on. I spend more time choosing what I read than reading the news.
It has the themes of the world like sex, homosexuality, struggles between artists that are
completely irrelevant, but are offered as news.
And even more today there are false news or "false news".
Proverbs 27:12
You have to be careful. It is necessary to do what needs to be done, and that includes
searching for the Word of God.
God knows our weaknesses, knows where to fall, and will help us as long as we are
close to him in prayer and praise.
Finally, today, I want you to read and read this section together:
Matthew 6: 9-13
9 You should pray like this:
Our Father in heaven,
help us to honor
your name.
10 Come and set up
your kingdom,
so that everyone on earth
will obey you,
as you are obeyed
in heaven.
11 Give us our food for today.
12 Forgive us for doing wrong,
as we forgive others.
13 Keep us from being tempted
and protect us from evil.[b]
Glory to God who has brought us this warning so that we are not without judgment.
So that we are worthy of the presence of God and His blessings in our lives. Amen
