Now You are Christ´s body, and individually members of it. (Cor. 12:27)
For even as the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body, so also is Christ. (Cor. 12:12)
What can we see, reading these words? – Jesus made us his children, followers, members of one body. As a human body has various limbs and everyone has his own feature, all of us have different functions, but we are o n e body (church) of Jesus Christ. Jesus and Godfather are o n e , the same way we represent the biggest proof of our believe in God, when we are united in love. It is the wish of Jesus when He prays: “ That they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, 23 I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me.” (John 17:21-23)
TO COMPREHEND THE COMMANDMENT
Let us speak about the question of spiritual union between Christians – in the way as JC and the apostles had taught us. One of the most important commandments of God´s saying is to live in unity. Apostle Paulus, for example, wrote to the Corinthians and begged these brothers, for goodness sake, to be united among each other: “ appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgement.”(1 Cor. 1:10) The man that had not yet understood how to live in harmony with his sisters and brothers (the other members of the church) had not yet understood the real believe and quiddity of the gospel of JC.
We have to learn to go united: To learn so, we have the example that Paul gives to us, making comparison between the church and the limbs of the human body. We know, that each of the limbs is working for a special purpose, making special movements. But alone no one is able to do something that makes sense. It depends on “teamwork”. Therefore the apostle says: ” For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, 5 so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.”(Romans 12:4-5)
Considering the comparison done between the church of JC and the human body, we never should forget that each member of the body is connected to the other in such a special way that, when one is affected in any way, all of them are too. The Bible reassures: “If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together” (1 Co 12:26) Paul gives the advise too: ” Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.”(Rom. 12:15) We must learn to empathize with the others, help them, feel with them when they are happy or sad, and give support and love. Doing this, we are not in competition, we must not compare who is smarter, more talented, more spiritual, better or greater. We are companions and not adversaries. Paul gives the recommendation to the Ephesians:” … bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. Because the mutual assistance between Christians is good and contenting.
